The Pittsburgh Bottleshop Cafe is a great social hot spot in Collier Township ( Collier Town Square Plaza close to Chartiers Valley High school) to sit back and down a couple of the world’s finest beers. The Bottleshop Cafe features over 400 beers with 31 of those on tap.

The atmosphere is open and friendly, with a very large wrap around bar with plenty of seating on either side. The food was great and their french fries are out of this world. I suggest the Caprese Chicken Sandwich, or if you’re looking for a taste of awesomeness with a little spice, try the Chicken Magma Wrap.

Their service was also what one would expect; our waitress was very personable and stopped by often to make sure our drafts were full which is a MUST to be BurghLife Approved. (OK she was also super cute which made the experience even more enjoyable.)

We even got to experience some free unexpected entertainment; some random dude came running outside on his cell phone screaming obscenities to whomever was on the other end… we all expected it to be a girlfriend/wife. It lasted for a good 5-10 minutes each time. It’s always nice to have a little pre-dinner comedy!

Over all… the Pittsburgh Bottleshop is a GREAT place for a couple brewskies or to have a bite to eat. Sit outside and take in the local entertainment (can’t promise the obscenties) or go inside to watch a sporting event on one of their several flat screens.

For the first time since 1898, the historic Pittsburgh amusement park plans to sell beer. Kennywood plans to sell beer in a fenced in “beer garden” near the lagoon. Unfortunately they are going to enforce that all beer sold and consumed will happen in the “beer garden” and will not be allowed to be taken to other areas in the park. By the way, BurghLife voted for drinking and riding, but the park authorities didn’t seem to agree.

Kennywood officials said that requests to sell beer have been one of the most common requests over the years… (ah dah, go figure, all those kids screaming, yelling and running around like a bunch of wild animals would make me want to down a few brewskis as well).

KDKA asked a local Pittsburgh park-goer, John Rezes, what he thought of the idea. “I think it’s a good idea,” John said. KDKA went on to ask him why and he simply replied “I like beer.”

Only in Pittsburgh John… we like beer too.

When one runs through the city of Pittsburgh, there are certain sights that he expects to see — cars, pedestrians, yellow bridges, and so on. Contrast those wholesome, everyday visuals with the image on the left.

Yes, on a sunny but blustery day this past week, as I was about to scale the pedestrian steps of the West End Bridge and continue my 12-mile run (or 4-mile; same thing), I noticed a piece of paper swirling around in the wind. At first glance, I thought “Big deal,” and almost proceeded up the steps. Thankfully, however — in what I truly believe was an act of Divine Intervention (Fact: God wants me to write about this stuff) – I caught a glimpse of the paper’s contents and headed over to investigate.

Drawn on the paper was a woman who clearly preferred the company of homeless men vs. homeowners; you could read it in her eyes/other parts. She was completely naked (censored in the photo above to keep BurghLife relatively family-friendly), arms up and caressing her hair in a “come-hither” stance that this author has seen hundreds of times (on cable).

It quickly occurred to me that this had to be homemade homeless porn, given its proximity to what appeared to be a makeshift residence. And, being a visual kind of guy myself, I understood. Seeing is way better than imagining.

I left that piece of paper there (no, that’s not littering, jagoff), and continued on my running journey, deeply moved by the experience…much as I hope you will be by this uplifting and inspirational story. (Unless it was just the creation of some horny pre-teen kid who’s Internet was down from all the G-D wind.)

Other random notes: The dirt stain on the drawing was sadly my doing — the first photo I took turned out empty because of the damn wind, so I had to step on the piece of art to keep it in place, then quickly snap another shot. My apologies to the artist. And speaking of that guy…I didn’t notice this until I uploaded the pic today, but he added his signature and a date to that mofo! The name is too messy for me to make out, but the date is 3-31-12 — this is fresh art, people!

OK… so let’s be honest. We all have our preferences about the people we spend our time with at work… whether it be a smoke break, a coffee break or a “lean back and talk to your cube buddy” break… there are definitely co-workers that we tend to gravitate towards. The question really becomes; are we gravitating toward them because of their personality, their humor, their likeness to us? Or is it because they are just plain FREAKING HOT! I’m sure in most cases (since the human race is about as shallow as a kiddie pool) it has something to do with their looks.

So… do what we do here at BurghLife. Grab a piece of paper, scribble “Stop Flirting” on it and pull that bad boy out every time you see co-workers talking. You will laugh your ass of while they get embarrassed. The redder their faces get the more likely they have chosen their chat partner because of his or her looks…

- by Megan Joy Williams

If you seem to notice road blocks, cameras, and movie stars on your daily commute and think that you’ve somehow managed to travel to Hollywood in your sleep, fear not.

Over the past year, Pittsburgh, also now known to some as the “Hollywood of the East”, has become quite a hot spot to film movies. This probably has something to do with the “Pennsylvania Film Production Tax Credit Program”. This program offers a 25 percent tax credit to films that spend 60 percent of their production budget in PA. While the tax credit is a nice perk, I think it’s fair to say that Pittsburgh also wins out over many cities in PA due to its gorgeous scenery. I mean, Mt. Washington is ranked as one of the best views in the country, who wouldn’t want that in their movie?

So what does this mean for Pittsburgh? Well extra jobs, that’s for sure. Currently, The Pittsburgh Film Office is looking to hire crew for two upcoming movies that are being shot here this spring. On top of that, one of the main things a movie needs is Actors, so if you’ve always dreamed of being in movies but didn’t dare make the move out west, you may finally get a shot to show your acting chops, or at least be an extra in a film and experience life on the set of a movie.

Over the past few years movies like, The Dark Knight Rises, The Perks of Being a Wallflower, Warrior, Dogma, and numerous others have been filmed here in Pittsburgh. The number of films is sure to grow if that tax credit sticks around.

If you’d like to get involved you can check out http://pghfilm.org/. Maybe, you’ll get your chance at your 15 minutes of fame without having to move to California.

“You can clean to this, cook to this, you can iron to this,” says Wiz Khalifa, describing the versatility of his new mixtape, Taylor Allderdice, which he played at a private listening session at Jungle City Studios in New York on Sunday night. Through a smokey haze, the Pittsburgh rapper encouraged his guests to kick back and drink up as he played the lengthy mixtape from beginning to end, rarely pausing to introduce the tracks.

He actually may not have needed to pause. Taylor Allderdice is evenly thematic, collectively containing Wiz’s signature “fly high, stunt hard, and carpe diem” sentiment. The beats, however, are refreshing, as some of them lean toward the West Coast, others borrowing a Dirty South swag (a possible influence of Taylor Gang signee Juicy J, in attendance along with Chevy Woods and labelmate Mac Miller). Prior to its release next month, the rapper has given his public a taste with “California,” “Mary 3x,” and “My Favorite Song”—all ripe with chronic inclination to reflect on his definition of the good life.

Other subject matter on deck ranged from allusions to sippin’ sizzurp to Amber Rose-related braggadocio (“That’s just how you live when your wife’s a model”). The compilation’s strength thus far seems to lie in the production and the rush of endorphins provided by Wiz’s mischievous content. Taylor Allderdice drops March 13 and Wiz’s second major label album O.N.I.F.C. is due later this year.

For the first time in 23 years, Madonna is bringing her world tour to the ‘burgh. Nicely done, Pittsburgh! You can read all of the details at the KDKA-TV website, so go there if you want…but all the cool kids are gonna want to stay here because BurghLife’s got a fun little interactive game we cooked up just for you!

We all know that Madonna is the queen of changing her image, but until BurghLife came up with this game, we had no effin’ clue how much that actually happened! (Don’t believe us? Google “Madonna through the years” and wait until you see the looks that come up, smart guy.) So we chose eight of her looks for you to vote on — that’s right…you’re gonna tell us which Madonna look you liked BEST.

Above is the gallery of images (note that there may be one or two thrown in that might not quite fit — gotta keep yinz on your toes!), each with a letter in the upper right corner from A to H. All you have to do is go through each picture, choose your favorite look, then fill out the poll! Fun, right? RIGHT! So Express Yourself (pun intended) – rate her looks, tell your friends to do the same…hell, even tell your Madonna Fan Club to, too…and we’ll all see which look BurghLifers like best.

“Every year, fat people consume billions of gallons of ice cream…often in one sitting.”

This is just one of many startling facts — most of which are true — revealed in BrrghMan’s very first Public Service Announcement, “Ice Cream is Murder.” The anti-ice cream movement has gained tens of followers across the globe, and after word spreads of this poignant new P.S.A., that following is sure to almost double.

So grab a loved one and a box of tissues for the emotional rollercoaster you’re about to ride…but do NOT grab that pint of cookies ‘n cream, you murderer!

Last night Adam Brock from Washington, Pa., was crying in front of the judges as he awaited his fate. He now has tears of joy after being told he made it into the top 24. (The first time any Pittsburgh Idol contestant made the live show.) He welled up after showing the judges a photo of his baby, then had more tears streaming while talking to his family back home. Congrats Adam! Make Pittsburgh proud… but might want to cut down on the tears a little – we’re just saying …

Pittsburgh Pirates president Frank Coonelly has been charged with four counts related to drunken driving in Ross. (OOPS!)

Ross Township police arrested Coonelly on Dec. 22 and charged him with drunken driving, driving the wrong way, careless driving and driving with a blood-alcohol content of at least .16, according to court records. The DUI charges are misdemeanors, while driving the wrong way and careless driving are summary offenses. (DRIVING THE WRONG WAY he must have been SMASHED!)

Coonelly said he was pulled over by the police just off the Parkway North`s Perrysville exit for the HOV lane. Coonelly said he made one turn and realized he was going the wrong way — about 5-10 feet, by his estimate (5 to 10 feet by his DRUNKEN estimate… RIGHT) — before making a U-turn (ILLEGALLY) and then came the PO-PO.
